Ganjumati Digal is 55 years old widow living with her daughter-in-law and her grandson in a village called Majhipada in Kandhamal district of Odisha. Ganjumati’s daughter-in-law named Enamati who is also a widow is an active member of Maa Santoshi Self Help Group. Both are engaged in making leaf plate and sell it in the nearby market and earn a living thereby fulfilling their household needs.
Two years ago both of them faced lots of financial problem then being the only earning members. Both of them earned through daily wage labor and earned INR 1,000 INR to 1,500 per month. To earn a better living, they decided to take loan from AMPL through Enamati’s SHG so as to invest money in leaf plate making business. They received a loan of INR 10,000 from Annapurna’s Phulbani branch and purchased leaf plate making machine, leafs, needles and threads for furthering their business.
Today Ganjumati and Enamati produce leaf plates in bulk and sell it to the local market generating a profit of INR 7,000 to 8,000 per month. Now Ganjumati is able to send her grandson to the school and is now leading a happy life.
